NMDC Dredging & Marine required a sustainable residential camp to support operations on Sir Baniyas Island. Byrne Equipment Rental was selected for its strong track record in delivering innovative, low-carbon temporary infrastructure across the UAE.
Byrne Equipment Rental engaged early with NMDC’s senior stakeholders to align sustainability objectives, operational requirements, and site constraints from the outset. This early collaboration enabled informed decision-making, closed technical knowledge gaps, and allowed both teams to co-develop a practical, low-carbon energy solution suitable for a protected island environment.
The project involved building a 500-person residential camp on a protected nature reserve, which required a power system that could significantly reduce diesel use while maintaining uninterrupted operations. Delivering equipment to the island added logistical complexity, and the client needed an energy solution that aligned with strict sustainability requirements and operational efficiency targets.
Byrne delivered a solar-powered hybrid camp consisting of:
700 solar panels (580W each)
Hybrid controllers and high-efficiency inverters
A solar system supplying 60% of daytime power demand
Full design, installation, and performance optimisation undertaken by Byrne’s technical team
