Challenges

The project presented several operational challenges including high peak load requirements from two tower cranes which demanded a reliable power strategy capable of managing heavy lifting cycles. The client required a sustainable solution that would maintain uninterrupted crane operation while reducing dependency on generator runtime. The solution needed to be fully configured, monitored, and optimised over long-term deployment to ensure consistent performance over 24 months.

Solution

Byrne delivered a hybrid BESS + generator power package specifically engineered for tower crane applications:

BESS Installation

  • Deployment: Deployed 2× Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), each rated at 215 kW output and 215 kWh storage capacity

  • Generator Installation: Installed 1× 200 kVA generator dedicated to charging both BESS units, replacing the traditional requirement for two 350 kVA generators.

  • Operational Support: Our technical team installed, resized, and configured the BESS units to match peak crane loads ensuring seamless, uninterrupted operation of both cranes powered primarily from battery storage. Provided remote monitoring and performance optimisation throughout the project duration.
